Setting up spam filters and removing referral spam from previous data
Spam is omnipresent in almost every aspects of the internet including website tracking. Since it distorts the website usage and user interaction data, it is very important to prevent any spam hits from entering your GA data or if it’s already in your data, to exclude it. GA spam prevention is implemented with the use of filters while spam hit exclusion is made with the help of custom segments.
In the first image you can see some filters that prevent various kind of spam, like language report spam and referral spam. In the second image you can see a report with data already contaminated wits spam hits and a segment that shows only the spam-free data.
